Is it ok to use white primer under a different color?

by Janice Eaton from Massachusetts

I'm just painting the stoop by the front door. I bought a shade of brown for the color but I only have white primer. I'm not concerned what color brown it ends up. Is it OK to use the white primer? Both are latex.

The color of the primer shouldn't affect the final color of your top coat. Whatever brown you choose will be the color you end up with. The only difference between a tinted primer and white is how many coats of paint it will take to cover the primer.
