Can I put a polyurethane finish on slate tile?

by Kathy

I recently started painting slate with spray paints, creating looks similar to cave walls. I was told by a Home Depot person that the slate could be used on a floor if I put a good polyurethane finish on it. Is it possible to do so? Will it last? Would the tiles be better used as back-splash or other wall decor. They turned out so beautiful, and people have been asking me about doing pieces for their floors.

I don't see why not. If spray paint will stick so should a floor urethane. Choose a good finish that is made for floors and apply at least two coats.

It would be better to apply a clear Epoxy finish, either 1 part Epoxy or 2 part Epoxy... it will hold up better to floor traffic... make SURE the substrate is perfectly CLEAN before application, and allow about 3-5 days for curing...
