Due to the volume of house painting questions I received via email every day I decided to build these pages for easy access to the answers you need. Everyone is envited to ask a question or offer your own answer.

The questions are arranged in categories. These are;

Categories

  • General Painting Questions - Questions that apply to both interior and exterior painting or are hard to place into other categories.

  • Paint Types and Paint Problems - Questions about the different types of house paints and primers or problems that can arise from their use.

  • Enviromental Painting Questions and Concerns - House painting questions pertaining to VOC's, weather and the problems that can arise, disposing of left over chemicals, etc.

  • Painting Tool Use and Care - Questions about the use of the various painting tools available and their care. This includes brushes (oil or latex), rollers, airless sprayers, etc, as well as the different sundries on the market (masking tape, paper, plastic).

  • Paint Color Questions - All aspects of color and sheen. From where to put a color, dividing two areas or just a little help finding that perfect paint color.

  • Interior Painting Questions - Interior painting questions pertaining to the preparation and painting of interior surfaces. This list can be very long indeed. Like spots that bleed through your paint, should I paint or stain, peeling paint or how many coats do I need.   • Fiberglass Door Finishing Questions - Questions about the finishing or refinishing of fiberglass doors. This includes staining as well as painting.

  • Wood Finishing and Refinishing Questions - If you have a question about stains, clear coats or stripping paint then this is the place for you. Included in this category is cabinets, fiberglass doors and how to clean off those pesky paint splatters.

  • Exterior Painting Questions - Questions pertaining to exterior painting and staining. This could include, but isn't limited to, how do I prepare a surface or how do I actually do an exterior painting or staining project.

  • Wood Deck Questions - Staining a new deck or refinishing an old deck? Questions about putting the finish on a wood deck is covered here.

  • Fence Painting and Staining Questions - Questions about staining or painting wood or metal fences.

  • Painting Contractor Questions - I have received a few questions pertaining to choosing a good painting contractor and "shouldn't this be included in the job" or Is this a bad paint job?". Through these questions and any that you have, I will try to bring some clarity to finding a good painting contractor.

    • Contractor to Contractor - This section is all about painting contractors. From bidding to general questions by painting contractors for painting contractors.
    • Bidding a Paint Job - Have a question or two about bidding a paint job? This is the place for painting contractors to ask about the specifics when trying to put together a good price for a difficult job.
